Unexpected Nightmares: A Paramedic attacked and stabbed on duty describes the hurdles of recovering from PTSD

This presentation will help attendees:

  • Understand the exact definition of PTSD
  • Realize the importance of having a mental health plan for first responders
  • Learn a systematic approach to establishing different mental health techniques to their department
  • Become educated about the treatment of PTSD with EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
  • Recognize the importance of having the RIGHT mental health clinicians available

Workplace Violence: A Paramedic attacked and stabbed on duty shares the lessons learned about unexpected violence in the workplace

By attending this session, the participant will:

  • Review studies done about workplace violence in EMS
  • Understand that the statistics of violence among EMS is similar across the board
  • Refresh and learn new techniques for establishing a safe EMS scene
  • View a case study on a specific attack on a Firefighter/Paramedic caught on tape
  • Learn about the Overt Aggression Scale used by Psychologists to rate dangerous patients
